1978/79
2/1/1978 v Brighton and Hove Albion
A 1-1 draw at the beginning of the year in which Saints won their
promotion to the 1st Division. Brighton finished 4th.

A goalless draw at Goodison on 7/10/1978
This was at the start of Saints now 22 season non-stop run in the top
division.
Saints finish 14th in his season.
The FA Cup 5th Round v West Brom on 10/3/79
As in '76 Saints beat them in a replay at the Dell. This time however
Saints are knocked
out in the next round by Arsenal. Bah!
However despite being knocked out of the FA Cup Saints did rather better
in the League Cup...
The League Cup Final 17/3/1979 v Nottingham Forest at Wembley.
Alas Saints finished runners-up in a 3-2 defeat.
